Eurogamer

Eurogamer is a prominent British video game journalism website that has been providing news, reviews, and features since its launch on September 4, 1999. Founded by John Bye, Patrick Stokes, and Rupert Loman, the site has evolved to cover a wide range of gaming platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo.

In 2007, Eurogamer began hosting content from Digital Foundry, a media outlet founded by games journalist Richard Leadbetter in 2004, known for its in-depth technical analyses of games and hardware.

Over the years, Eurogamer has made notable changes to its review system. In February 2015, the site abandoned its traditional ten-point scale in favor of labels such as "Essential," "Recommended," or "Avoid," aiming to provide clearer guidance to readers. This change was driven by doubts about the score system's usefulness and a desire to distance itself from review aggregator Metacritic due to its perceived "unhealthy influence" on the games industry.

In May 2023, Eurogamer reintroduced review scores, opting for a five-point scale, which they found to be "universally understood, simple to take in at a glance, and easily shared."

In February 2018, Eurogamer's parent company, Gamer Network, was acquired by Reed Exhibitions, a division of RELX. Later, in May 2024, Gamer Network was sold to IGN Entertainment, freelancing

 a subsidiary of Ziff Davis.

Eurogamer has received several industry accolades, including the "Best Website" award at the Games Media Awards from 2007 to 2011, and "Media Brand of the Year" at the MCV/Develop Awards in 2022 and 2024.

The website offers a variety of content, including news, reviews, features, and guides, catering to a diverse gaming audience. It also provides a supporter program, offering readers an ad-free experience and access to exclusive content.

As of January 2025, Eurogamer continues to be a trusted source for video game journalism, adapting to industry changes and maintaining a commitment to providing quality content for its readers.
